UK is the largest internet-based economy
Internet is on the rise in the UK
A recent report from the BBC claims that the Internet currently contributes a larger share of the UK’s economy than any of the other major world economies.
Statistics suggest that the Internet contributes to at least 8.3% of the UK’s entire economy.
In 2010 the UK’s “internet economy” was worth £121bn, more than £2,000 per person, according to researchers at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
This makes it one of the largest markets in the country, larger than healthcare, construction and education.
The report also state that “13.5% of all purchases were done over the internet in 2010…and this is projected to rise to 23% by 2016.”
